What is the Interactive Wheel of Time Story?

It's a Wheel of Time adventure... and you are in it.

The Interactive Story is a collaboratively written adventure taking place in the Wheel of Time world. Imagine sitting around a table with other people and passing pen and paper around to write a story. Each person adds to the story, continuing from where the previous writer stopped.

How do I join? Anyone can join the Interactive Story-- you don't have to be a writer of great experience or skill. Decide who you want to be in the Wheel of Time world (an Aes Sedai? a gleeman? an Aiel warrior?) and register for an account at silklantern. After you've registered, proceed through our self paced Writing Workshop, which will help you get oriented to the Story:

When you've gone through the Workshop, you're ready to join the Interactive story in the shorter Chapters or the longer Campaigns.

A Glossary for the Interactive Story

Scene (n).

Synonyms Post.

Equivalent to a single posted message on an online message board. A story or part of a story, written from the point of view of a single character and posted by one writer; a reply to another writer's scene.

Chapter (n).

Synonyms Thread; Role Playing (RP) Thread; Role Play (RP).

A chapter of the Interactive Story is equivalent to a "thread" on an online message board. It is a collection of related, consecutive scenes, displayed on one page. Some chapters are stand-alone and do not connect to any other chapters; other chapters are parts of continuing story lines.

Campaign (n).

Synonyms Role Play (RP); RP Board.

A story line taking place over many chapters. All chapters in a given campaign are related to the same story line.

To Be Continued By

Designates the next writer who is supposed to add a scene. Do not post a scene if "To be continued by" is followed by someone else's name.

'In Character' (IC) (n).

A commonly used denotation, to mark a writing passage or chatroom conversation as part of the Interactive Story. For example, participants in a scheduled 'IC' chat should come dressed for adventure as their Wheel of Time character. You do not need to mark your scene writing 'IC,' since that is already assumed.

'Out of Character' (OOC) (n).

Synonyms In Real Life (IRL).

Power Player (n).

A character with unrealistic "superhero" tendencies that do not allow for good character development. The Power Player Quiz exists to provide assistance in developing more well-rounded characters.

Violet Ajah (n).

An original silklantern creation, the Violet Ajah is an Internet tradition that is not in the books. Aes Sedai of the Violet Ajah dedicate themselves to studying and creating angreal, ter'angreal, and sa'angreal.
